Zurich Airport ranked as one of the top 10 best airports in the world
The latest World Airport Awards by Skytrax has ranked Zurich as the ninth-best airport in the world. Despite the disruption expected in Switzerland over the summer, Zurich managed to beat out prestigious airports in Hong Kong and Amsterdam to earn one of the top spots.
Best airports in the world ranked
Every year, Skytrax publishes the World Airport Awards, the centrepiece of which is a list of the 100 best airports in the world. To make the list, the UK-based consultancy firm looks at surveys ranking passenger experience while at the airport, ease of access (i.e. public transport connections), check-in and security services, flight transfers and retail availability.
This year's ranking saw Doha Hamad International Airport in Qatar retain the title of best airport in the world. The airport also won the award for the cleanest airport in the Middle East and the best airport that serves 15 to 20 million passengers a year.
Zurich has the best airport security in the world
European airports also did well in this year's top 10, with Paris Charles de Gaulle coming sixth and Munich Airport coming seventh. The airport in Munich was also named the best airport in central Europe.
In the ranking for 2022, Zurich Airport - the largest in the alpine nation - came in ninth place overall. The airport was also recognised with individual awards, being named as having the best airport security in the world and being the cleanest airport in Europe.
Despite the good showing in 2022, the airport has actually fallen down the order after coming seventh in 2021. This is possibly due to the adverse effects of staff shortages and high demand caused by the end of the COVID pandemic. Sadly, the airports in Basel and Geneva did not make it into the top 100.
