For our client, an international pharma company in Basel, we are looking for a Flow Cytometry Specialist.

The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the flow cytometry workflow, including sample preparation, troubleshooting, and experience developing and validating new assays. You will work with a sense of urgency as a part of a matrix team, collaborating with specialists from each of our therapeutic disease areas and functions to propel drug discovery projects forward, and will also contribute to the ongoing development and operations of the Flow Cytometry Technology Platform.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
 
  • Collaborate with colleagues on general laboratory operations, including daily instrument QC, maintenance, and troubleshooting across flow cytometry lab equipment to ensure high-quality data production.
  • Train and support users on flow cytometry instruments (Attune NxT, BD Fortessa and Symphony A5, Cytoflex LX and Cytek Aurora, including independent operation of cell sorters (BD FACSAria Fusion and Cytek Aurora CS).
  • Collaborate with pRED scientists to formulate innovative flow cytometry strategies, and assist with data analysis and interpretation of results.
  • Oversee complex flow cytometry experiments, providing consultation on experimental design, optimizing sample preparation, and ensuring high-quality data generation.
  • Support the Flow Cytometry 360 Lab colleagues in delivering training courses on theoretical and practical operation of instruments and associated software.
  • Embrace continuous learning by engaging with scientific literature to stay updated on emergent technologies and approaches in the flow cytometry field.

Must Haves:
  • BS or MS degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 3 years of dedicated experience in a flow cytometry core facility or advanced research environment involving extensive use of flow cytometry.
  • Solid understanding of biology along with a theoretical and practical experience of flow cytometry instrumentation and applications, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and quality control.
  • In-depth proficiency in the design of flow cytometry experiments, together with data analysis and interpretation of results using different software, such as FlowJo, OMIQ, or other flow cytometry data analysis packages.
  • Hands-on experience in the operation and use of fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) for diverse applications.
  • Customer-focused with a drive for growth and a questioning mindset. Skilled in creative problem-solving, organization, and implementing innovative ideas efficiently in a fast-paced research context.
  • Excellent communicators with a high fluency in English, a desire to continuously build a personal network, and the ability to collaborate and thrive in a dynamic, inclusive environment which gives you full accountability for your own contributions and development.

Nice to Have:
  • PhD degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related field, with at least 5 years of experience in an extensive flow cytometry research environment focused on advanced flow cytometry applications.
