About this role

As a Financial Operations Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the Financial Operations Manager in delivering a timely, accurate and complete end-to-end settlements process across the Trading Desks within our Oil division. A significant focus of the role will be settlement query resolution, brokerage settlements, reporting and analysis, process improvement and operational controls. This role is suited to an individual who is naturally analytical, inquisitive and solutions focused. You will be expected to go beyond processing transactions by understanding the underlying trade and settlement flows, investigating exceptions, resolving complex queries and identifying the root cause of issues. KEY RELATIONSHIPS: - Marketing Finance Team - Marketing and Logistics team for Oil and Petroleum products - Treasury and Risk Management teams based in London You will work across multiple teams and systems and will need to be comfortable navigating incomplete or unfamiliar information. The main tasks and responsibilities include: - Take ownership of settlement queries and operational issues from identification through to full resolution, escalating appropriately where required. - Investigate exceptions and discrepancies by reviewing transactions and system data. - Engage with Operations, Treasury, Risk Management, Trading, Finance and other relevant stakeholders. - Develop a strong understanding of the end-to-end settlement lifecycle and consider the wider operational and financial impact of actions and decisions. - Manage and investigate brokerage settlements. - Maintain a high level of accuracy while working through complex, high-volume and at times ambiguous resolution scenarios. - Monitor and address queries from counterparties and other external and internal stakeholders. - Build effective internal and external relationships to support information flow and timely resolution of settlement issues. - Produce regular operational and management reports with meaningful analysis and commentary. - Analyze outstanding items, trends, ageing, exceptions and recurring issues. - Support the Financial Support Manager in reviewing and updating policies, procedures and controls when changes as processes, systems or business requirements change. - Proactively identify when procedures no longer reflect operational requirements and assist in improved ways of working. - Ensure settlement, counterparty and billing activities remain aligned with company policies and internal controls. - Meet agreed targets while maintaining a strong focus on quality, completeness and resolution. - Support the Financial Support Manager with periodic and ad hoc analysis. - Perform additional duties as required in a dynamic environment. Qualifications and requirements - A relevant degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related analytical discipline. - Experience within settlements, operations, or financial operations is advantageous. - Commodity trading experience is beneficial but not essential. - Strong Excel skills and confidence working with data and reports. - Take ownership, think analytically and be driven to resolve issues. - Demonstrate curiosity and a desire to understand processes end to end. You will: - Be resourceful and persistent in resolving complex or unfamiliar problems. - Have strong attention to detail while retaining the bigger picture. - Show a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. - Be comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. - Communicate confidently and professionally. - Have advanced Microsoft Office skills. - Have strong written and spoken English.
