Finance Accounting Lead
About this role
We are looking for a motivated Finance Lead to join our Marketing Finance Department, to lead and develop growing Back Office teams based in, Melrose, Johannesburg. The team in South Africa is focused in providing services to our Marketing offices in London and Switzerland. The South Africa finance team consisting mainly of Financial Accounting, Trade Accounting and Financial Operations.
Responsibilities
- Team Management
- Lead and support the growth and development of 4-6 team members, providing coaching and mentoring to the team.
- Recruitment, including screening and interviewing, and performance reviews.
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for improvement and automation in all day to day and periodic tasks being performed by the financial accounting team.
- Controlling
- Ownership of controls related to financial accounting ensuring clear evidence is maintained for all controls performed.
- Work closely with the Financial Governance & Assurance team based in Baar to implement new controls across the Back Office team, in the most efficient manner.
- Be a Subject Matter Expert for financial controls required across the Marketing Finance space and look for opportunities to improve the control environment.
- Drive tax risk review projects on a continuous basis, with the objective of mitigating risks.
- Oversee the financial month end reporting process and ensure required deadlines are met, as well as prepare all monthly management reports.
- Ensure annual financial reports are prepared and issued within statutory and Glencore group timelines.
- Assist with annual audit process and ensure adherence to timelines to conclude assurance reviews.
Day to Day Activities
- Support and look for improvements in daily transactions and reporting processes.
- Review monthly reporting, along with commentary.
- Support and guide accounting team performing month-end tasks such as journal entries, Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet analysis, etc.
- Timely processing of invoices and payments by the Financial Accounting team.
- Assist in preparation and coordinating the preparation of operating plan and annual budgets
Candidates who would excel in our environment
- A qualified Chartered Accountant (CA/ CPA/ ACCA) with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, gained within the audit environment.
- Strong compliance mindset, knowledge with SOX, PCAOB or other control standards is an advantage.
- Working knowledge of IFRS standards
- Good IT knowledge, a flair for figures, and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English - any additional language considered as a plus
- knowledge of dual currency reporting requirements in line with International Accounting Standards
- Experience with leading fellow team members and working without supervision
- Experience working with SAP software
