Major travel agents Hotelplan Suisse, Interhome, Globetrotter, Kuoni and Helvetic Tours have revealed which global destinations are top of the bucket list this year. Reporting to Watson, they found that while the usual suspects around the Mediterranean still attract tourists from Switzerland by the plane load, 2025 is set to see the rise of more far-flung destinations too.

Springtime favourites for travellers from Switzerland revealed

Starting with the spring, the providers noted that sunny regions and cruises are the most popular choices for holidays. Close to home, trips to Spain, Greece, Morocco and northern and central Italy are firm favourites among travellers from Switzerland. Trips to the Swiss mountains are also popular, alongside day trips to Europa-Park in Germany.

Further afield, the sands and azure blue waters of Egypt are the place to visit this springtime. American adventures, Thai, Mexican and Maldivian beaches and the historical sites and wonders of Japan were also top of bucket lists.

Hot summer weather boosts popularity of cooler destinations

As we head into summer, the holiday powerhouses of Greece, Cyprus, Spain (Majorca especially), Croatia and the south of France come into their own. However, with the weather regularly becoming unbearably hot during mid-summer, the travel agents predicted that many holidaymakers will pick cooler destinations like the United Kingdom, Brittany, Scandinavia, Iceland and Finland.

The summer is also set to be peak season for those planning longer trips away. In 2025, the United States, Canada, Egypt, Namibia, Sri Lanka and Australia are expected to be the top picks among the Swiss.

Autumn in Switzerland the peak season for visiting Japan

Walking in autumn leaves not doing it for you? The prelude to winter will see cooler trips to Greece, Morocco, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Cyprus dominate. Autumn trips in the Alps are also expected to be popular, with Ticino providing the best weather conditions.

Autumn will also be the peak season for travelling to Japan. Egypt, the United States, Indonesia, Tanzania and Kenya will follow close behind.

Winter in Switzerland: Where are the top holiday spots in 2025?

Finally, it seems as though people in Switzerland like to experience winter in all its snowy, chilly majesty. Barring the balmy climes of Spain, Germany, the Swiss Alps, Austria and Finland were the top locations for a winter break.

In terms of long-haul destinations, the Maldives, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam, Colombia and Argentina are at the top of the agenda in 2025.
