Check out Switzerland’s entry for Eurovision 2023

A 21-year-old from Canton St. Gallen has been chosen to represent Switzerland at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Liverpool. The final will be held on May 13, 2023, when the young Swiss singer Remo Forrer hopes to sing his way to first place.

Swiss Eurovision song will be revealed on March 7

The song that will be the official Swiss entry will be revealed on March 7, and Forrer will perform the song at the first Eurovision semi-final on May 9. “The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the greatest things you can do,” the singer from near St. Gallen told Swiss broadcaster SRF. “It has always been a dream and I'm super happy that it's now coming true.”

To become Switzerland’s nominated performer, Forrer had to win over a 20-person international jury and a panel of 100 spectators. Forrer is already well-known in Switzerland, after winning the third season of “The Voice of Switzerland” in 2020.

Swiss Eurovision entry is confident he can deliver

The Swiss Eurovision entry is confident that he can impress the world as he represents Switzerland at the contest. "Not only can I deliver under pressure, but I also like to do it", the young singer told SRF

The contest itself was started by the European Broadcasting Union, based in Geneva, in 1956. The competition was designed to foster cooperation and unity after the end of the Second World War, with the competition growing from seven member nations in 1956 to more than 40 today.

Switzerland has won the competition twice, with Refrain by Lys Assia claiming the top spot in the first-ever competition in 1956. Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi, sung by Céline Dion, won the competition for the alpine nation in 1988. As a result, the competition has been held in Switzerland twice over the years, once in Lugano in 1956 and in Lausanne in 1989.

The 67th contest will be held in Liverpool after the United Kingdom stepped in to host on behalf of Ukraine. The competition will be broadcast to over 160 million viewers online and on TV. Check out a video of one of Forrer's songs below!
