By Clara Bousfield

The Swiss Federal Railway (SBB) has shared the latest figures on how punctual trains were in Switzerland in 2025. 94,1 percent of Swiss trains arrived at their destination on time, a record high for SBB.

Is it really possible for Swiss trains to get even more punctual? According to SBB it is! In 2025, 94,1 percent of SBB trains reached their destination on time, an SBB record reports Nau. The latest figures are an improvement of 0,9 percent compared to 2024.

You may be wondering whether it’s possible to reach 100 percent punctuality. On December 28, SBB trains almost did! 98,6 percent of trains arrived on time, making it “the most punctual day in the history of SBB”.

Swiss trains were most delayed in Ticino

Train punctuality, however, was not equal across Switzerland. SBB reports that trains were most delayed in Ticino, with punctuality decreasing from 92,6 percent in 2024 to 92,1 percent in 2025. This was largely due to train delays and worker strikes in Italy and construction work.

On the other hand, punctuality of public transport in western Switzerland improved from 91,9 percent in 2024 to 93,4 percent in 2025. Connection punctuality, i.e. whether two connecting trains run on time, reached 98,9 percent and exceeded the Swiss average.

In 2025, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) reported that around 1,4 million people take the train each day in Switzerland. 6 Swiss cantons recently called for more investment in certain train routes as trains continue to get busier with commuters and tourists.
