Job Description

 

As a Principal Engineer, you have a strong focus on giving direction, vision and strategy in the frontend universe. With the high innovation speed, sheer amount of frameworks and different approaches in this realm, you bring the clarity and are able to show how all of these pieces fit together and can be used to delight our users.  As a technical leader, you support product teams with your technical expertise and work collaboratively with them to find the best solutions for functionality they build. You keep the big picture across the teams, you look what’s ahead in tech and business and are able to connect the dots.  You are a multiplier, helping engineers to grow and be your ambassadors in their product teams. In this role, you are part of the engineering leadership team, shaping the engineering organization and building the space where everyone can bring its best. In this role, you will:

• Shape the vision & plan/ strategy for the frontend realm 
• Stay on top of the tech trends and educate others how to leverage them to boost the business and improve users experience on our platform 
• Coach, mentor and inspire engineers by:
  1. Working directly within feature teams on particular topics / delivering new features 
  2. Organizing Workshops, trainings and writing tutorials 
  3. Working with engineers that need help or request support
• Provide  governance of the given area of technology 
• Understand overall complexity and keep it on a sustainable level
• Recommend solutions with business priorities in mind
• Foster kledge sharing and use of team synergies  (guilds, tech events, meetups) 
• Document architectural decisions, create demos and POCs, review code 
• Represent engineering to the outside world and help to attract great people
• Shape engineering organization and its culture, by being a role model and working closely with engineering leadership 

 

 

Qualifications

 

Who you are / What do you bring:

• Wide experience in technologies such as Typescript, React,Vue.js, Node.js and design systems. 
• Deep understanding of modern web applications design architecture, good API design patterns, performance and scale
• Demonstrated technical leadership experience, such as being an architect or tech lead for high impact customer facing projects
• Strong leadership skills and easiness to set yourselves as a natural point of contact
• Great communication skills to build and articulate a technical vision
• Passionate about helping others learn and grow. Focused on the best, not ‘own’ solutions
• Eagerness to learn and understand the business vision, strategy and its priorities
• Ideally experience in the AWS field, working with AWS services 

Our tech stack:

• Frontend is implemented with Vue.js / React, with Typescript as the language of choice. It consists of a mix of client-side, server-side, pre-rendered and hybrid web apps.
• Backend is written in Node.js and Typescript, following a serverless and microservices architecture in a cloud-based environment using AWS. Our main services leverage Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS and S3 among others. 
• Monitoring is done mainly through Datadog and Sentry.
• Codebase and services are documented using Backstage.
