Taste of Zermatt

The alpine town of Zermatt is celebrated for many things, not least for its culinary excellence. In fact, every year, the famous town in the mountains is awarded more Michelin Stars and Gault Millau points than anywhere else in Switzerland. It’s no wonder that high-quality food-related events take place in Zermatt.

That’s why the area is known for its many culinary events that take place at various times of the year. From hiking between different Swiss mountain restaurants to delicious meals in cable cars, these separate events are part of the larger overall event known as Taste of Zermatt. Below you’ll find out which food events take place as part of Taste of Zermatt, and when.

Gondola Fondue

• What: Fondue in a cable car
• When: July 15, 2022, from 6.15pm
• Where: Zermatt to Trockener Steg, aboard a cable car
• How much: 99 Swiss Francs for adults; 75 Swiss Francs for children

Gondola Fondue (Fondue am Seil) whisks you away on a cable car, for a scenic journey where you’ll be treated to delicious fondue and fine wine! The appetisers vary, but guests can always expect the classic, world-famous Swiss cheese fondue with local bread, a dessert and a Valais digestive! There’s also Valais wine and coffee. The cable car leaves from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise valley station at 6.15pm. 

Gondola Breakfast

• What: A brunch in a cable car
• When: August 14, 2022, from 9.15am
• Where: Zermatt to Trockener Steg, aboard a cable car
• How much: 69 Swiss Francs for adults; 50 Swiss Francs for children

Guests of Gondola Breakfast (Gondelfrühstück) are treated to an unforgettable breakfast as they enjoy the 70-minute return journey from Zermatt to Trockener Steg aboard a cable car. It begins at breakfast time, but is so sumptuous that you can argue that it's more of a brunch than a breakfast!

Throughout the meal, the striking panoramic view of the Matterhorn provides the most amazing backdrop whilst new culinary delights are served at each stop along the way. So, get ready for an unforgettable start to your day! The cable car leaves from Matterhorn Glacier Paradise valley station at 9.15am. 

Horugüet bike

• When: September 3, 2022
• What: A culinary mountain bike trip
• Where: Various different mountain restaurants in Zermatt

On the first Saturday of September, the brand new culinary bike trip known as Horugüet Bike takes place in Zermatt, where participants travel around to different restaurants on e-bikes. Find out by more contacting the organisation at [email protected]

Horugüet culinary mountain hike

• When: October 8, 2022
• What: A culinary mountain hike
• Where: Six different mountain restaurants in Zermatt
• How much: 179 Swiss Francs

On the first Saturday of October, the culinary hike known as Horugüet takes place in Zermatt, surrounded by a unique mountain panorama. The hike takes in six mountain restaurants, where different regional specialities can be enjoyed. The hike takes places in all kinds of weather!

The starting point is at Manud Restaurant Bar and the tour finishes at Blatten Restaurant. Horugüet costs 179 Swiss Francs.
