The Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival is a five-day experimental cultural event focused on underground film and music in Lausanne, on the banks of Lake Geneva.

Bringing experimental films and music to new audiences

The festival, originally inspired by the New York Underground Film Festival, aims to present films and music that typically exist outside mainstream profit-driven forums. Therefore, the films and music at the Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival (LUFF) tend to be extremely experimental in character, bringing new insights to its attendees, and perhaps leading them to question their existing understanding of film and music.

Not only is the festival about introducing new films and music to wider audiences, but it also regards its annual competition as a very important strand of the festival and its identity. These monetary prizes support up-and-coming film makers in their continuing endeavours. There’s also a satellite programme parallel to the official festival agenda, offering free performances.

All films must be in either English or French or have English or French subtitles, meaning the majority of the programme is suitable for an international audience.

  • Le Zinema and Bellevaux independent movie theatres
  • La Datcha cultural cafe
