Enchanté Singing Festival
The third edition of the Enchanté Singing Festival will take place in the village centre of Riehen from September 20-22, 2024. The festival celebrates the joy of singing together and the power of the voice.
Enchanté Singing Festival
Singing is a unifying force, that can bring people together from all backgrounds and make them happy. Singing is such a universal joy, and this festival is all about doing it together. As well as a programme of music by professionals, there are open singing sessions, where anyone can join in, as well as workshops where you can improve your technique or learn a new style of singing.
Concerts
Among the concerts are those by talented singers and choirs, such as Latin Grammy award-winners Las Migras, or Romansh folk singer The Triad, and more experimental performances, such as Lukas Huber's one-man opera!
On Sunday, there is a free-to-attend closing concert featuring the festival choir and all the workshop participants, so you get a chance to put your learnings into practice right away.
Singing workshops
The workshops at this year's festival cover a diverse range of topics. You can choose to learn:
- Brahms' Love Songs Waltz
- Bulgarian folk songs
- Polyphonic group singing
- Romansh songs
- Singing with choreography
- Beatboxing
Open Sessions
On Friday, the popular YouTube channel Warm Up at 9 presents an open class to get your voice exercised and ready for the weekend. The channel first became popular during lockdown and has continued strongly since, getting people at home all over Switzerland to warm up their voices every morning.
Saturday afternoon is the main open session, with two hours of free singing in the main town square that everyone can join in with. No talent is required, but a good mood is a must!
Attending Enchanté Singing Festival
Other than the Saturday afternoon free sing-a-long, you need to book either tickets or free reservations for each event separately. Each ticket has three price bands, and you simply pay which one you can afford.
Riehen is a small village, barely outside Basel and on the border with Germany, and it is easily accessible by public transport. A tram from central train station in Basel takes about 25 minutes to get there, and a local train from Basel Bad train station gets there in just 5 minutes, making it an ideal day trip from the city.
You can find out more about the lineup and buy your tickets on the Enchanté Singing Festival website.
